June 2022 – Marissa Cruz has been with us since 2016, and is an important part of the Driver’s family. She was working as a business banker at Wells Fargo when she got to know Paul Geffner, a co-owner at Driver’s. Paul was a client of Marissa’s, and the two became friends. “He would always ask me when I would quit the bank and come work for him,” she said. About six years ago, Marissa traveled to Guam to visit family and, upon returning, she realized she was ready for a change. She let Paul know, and came to work at Driver’s.
It was a fortuitous move for Marissa, and the job has developed into a big role at the market. Now our Deli Manager, Marissa loves the Driver’s community and the beautiful location. She also likes bringing in new ideas to the Deli. When a customer or staff member has an idea for a new offering, the deli team gives their recipe a shot to see if people enjoy them.
In her free time, Marissa is an outrigger paddler, competing in races across the Pacific. She started paddling with Hawaiian Canoe Club in Maui, and now races with San Francisco Outrigger Canoe Club. Her races include Pailolo World Challenge, paddling 26 miles from Maui to Molokai, and the Catalina Crossing from Newport Beach to Catalina Island. Marissa recently started dragon boat paddling with San Francisco Dragon Warriors. “I love being in the water,” she said.
Most importantly, says Paul, Marissa’s winning spirit and leadership skills embody what Driver’s is all about: working cooperatively towards a common goal. “Marissa is one of those rare people who make everyone else better through a dynamic of mutual respect,” he said. “We love her.”
Marissa’s favorite deli item: Vanilla and Caramel Swirl soft serve topped with chocolate fudge, salt caramel sauce, chocolate cookie crumbs, rainbow sprinkles and whip cream!
