The Giacomini family established their dairy farm in 1959, when Bob and Dean Giacomini purchased 720 acres in Tomales Bay. They were successful and their herd of cows grew large, producing some of the best milk in Sonoma. But they could see the land was stressed, and realized a large dairy operation wasn’t sustainable. Together with Bob’s wife and grown daughters, the family worked together to reduce the size of the dairy, and transition the business into an artisan farmstead. In 2000, the Giacomini’s launched their first retail cheese, Original Blue. Today, Point Reyes Farmstead holds awards for both sustainable land use, and outstanding cheesemaking.
